JWG PSP7 Tutorials:
Adding Noise
![]()
As you can see from the above example: you can add rather a lot of noise to your graphics!! You can also add rather less too!!

However much noise you want to apply; here is an easy basic method to start you off. Open your graphic in Animation Shop. Duplicate 3 frames by clicking twice on the Duplicate icon:
Select all your frames by holding down Ctrl on your keyboard, and hitting A. Go to Effects: and click on Apply Image Effect:
(Not "Insert Image Effect" for our purposes), as I think this method is easier for a complete beginner to start with. The Apply Image Effects dialog box will open and you will see a drop down box and button at the bottom left: Click first on noise in the drop down box, (you may have to scroll to find it) and then on Customise.
When you click on Customise, another small dialog box appears. If you move it around a bit, you can keep your preview pane above it, so that you can see the effects as you try them, before applying them to your image.
I usually take off the Random Opacity and use the sliders on Intensity and Opacity as shown in the shot. You can use either grey or colour for the noise, and keep moving the sliders up and down until you like the effect that is being previewed. Click OK. You are taken back to the Apply Image Effects dialog box, where you also click OK.
You can now View your Animation before saving it.
If you are happy with it, Go to File: Optimization Wizard and save your image.(Click here for help with using the Optimization Wizard). If it doesn't seem as good when viewed properly, just click undo, and repeat the procedure from Step 3. I find that 3 frames are generally sufficient for noise, but you can add more if you wish. Just click 3 times on the duplicate frames icon for 5 frames, and 4 times for 9. You can use this method for all the effects in the drop down box in the Apply Image Effects dialog box: Some effects will require more frames however: so if they fail to preview, try adding more frames as described above. You can add frames individually by clicking on a frame, and going to Edit: Duplicate Selected: Or: Right clicking on the selected frame, and clicking on Duplicate Selected. (This is useful if you want say 6 or 7 frames rather than 5 or 9).
