JWG PSP7 Tutorials:
Altering Gifs

OK, So you have an image saved as a gif, and you want to alter it in some way... Maybe change the dress colour of a doll, or add a border to a picture, banner or whatever.. I used to go to the trouble of saving my gif as a jpeg, closing it, re-opening it, and proceeding from there... Then Pedro reminded me that there is a much easier way to go about this, and this what I am going to show you now :-)

Open your image in PSP and duplicate it :

Close your original image, as you don't need it anymore. Now go to Colors, and Increase Color Depth:

This is how you will see the menu, but I have split up the screenshots so you can see more clearly where to click:

Now go to your Layer Palette. If it is not already open, click on the tool bar to open it.

Right click on background which is all that should be there, and click on Promote to Layer:

You should now have all the menus and tools available to you to alter your image as desired. When you have finished making your changes, if you wish to save your image as a transparent gif (for dolls, signatures etc), don't forget to use the Gif Optimizer! If you simply use "Save As" your image will be saved on a white background for you. If you are new to the Gif Optimizer, click here for my tutorial on how to use it. And that's all there is to it!! Thanks Pedro :-)
